The gear
Wowee, here I am sitting on my seventh and last train of the day (if you count the three I took to SFO). I've had about three 1-2 hour naps since I left but I feel surprisingly fine. Guess the excitement hasn't worn off yet, but I really don't think it will.
Since I have a good two hours left until I reach Amsterdam, let's rewind a bit. This is what I walked out my home with:
- The heavy artillery is my Gregory Baltoro 70 backpack, purchased after thorough research and by recommendation of Nam and many different outdoor shops I browsed. I tend to overpack, but I did my best to keep to a limit of 25 pounds in anticipation that it'll gradually get heavier throughout the trip. It's already passed with flying colours after a full day constantly on the move.
- My sidearm is the crumpler four million dollar home. It fits my Panasonic GF1 with second lens, iPod, travel documents and miscellany. This bag is uber versatile, you can lock the top flap down two different ways for added security. It also doesn't hurt that it's neon green inside.
- That Moleskine was a gift from Jess, whom pleasantly surprised me with a nice little package in the mail the day before I left. I keep it in my inside jacket pocket with a mini pen and use it to jot down thoughts and trip details on the fly. I didn't originally plan to do this since I'm an all-digital all-the-time kid, but I really see the value in it now and have my better half to thank for it.
- The slip-on Clarks are my attempt at blending in with the European crowd, because the less I stand out the less likely I'll be a target for pickpocketing and such. At least I'd like to think so. I should also mention (in case Mom is reading) that my jacket is weatherproof and has zipping pockets. I am a fortress.
Ready for Europe

Got my Eurail Global Pass today. The excitement is really kicking in. I'm leaving next Tuesday 24 AUG and will return on Tuesday 14 SEP. Three solid weeks in the continent that has evaded me for long enough.
There are several major reasons for this trip:
- A weeklong volunteer expedition researching whales and dolphins on a boat off the coast of Italy
- Celebrate a relationship milestone - one (super duper smiles times extraordinary) year with Jessica
- Visit Thomson as he settles back in at Cambridge to finish what he started
- Watch Muse perform at Wembley Stadium and live a similar experience to this on 11 SEP
I'm calling it my Speed Date with Europe. The session currently includes London, Cambridge, Belgium, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Florence, Pisa, Rome, San Remo, Nice, Barcelona, Paris, Bordeaux. I'll sleep in hostels, overnight trains, hotels, a boat, and Oak Villa.
Too. Excited. Losing. Sleep.
My sister’s wedding
On June 26th 2010, my sister and Jeff tied the knot at Rancho Bernardo Courtyard in San Diego, California. The reception was held at Pearl Chinese Cuisine. The following pictures are from my point of view (and at times Jessica's, or Tim's, or Khang's) during that truly special day.

View the entire set. You can also find more pictures on the wedding photographer's blog.
Check out Jeff and Quyen's wedding site for some more details such as how they met, their engagement etc. Love you sis, I look forward to spoiling my future nieces/nephews!
